Annual Coastal Cleanup Day Keeps South Walton Beaches Beautiful
Keep Walton County Beautiful hosted South Walton’s International Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 21. In partnership with volunteer organizations and individuals around the globe, the International Coastal Cleanup encourages participation in trash removal from the world’s beaches and waterways
This year, volunteers collected litter from three regional beach accesses at Miramar Beach, Dune Allen Beach and Inlet Beach, removing roughly 3,500 pieces of trash, weighing approximately 400 pounds in total
“The beauty of this day is residents and visitors coming out to help clean up the beach, and we’re proud to see people willing to give their time and give back,” said Matt Algarin, director of Walton County Tourism, who signed in volunteers at the Miramar RBA.
He also emphasized the importance of helping to keep the beaches clean and preserve natural surroundings, whether it's on a designated cleanup day or just day-to-day visits to the beach, adding, “If we all do our part to help keep this community beautiful, it will be a better place for it.”
Keep Walton County Beautiful is Walton County Tourism’s local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and dedicated to preserving the environment by empowering individuals to participate in the protection and enhancement of the local community.
