February Tourism Numbers on the Rise in Walton County

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — April 3, 2018—Tourist Development Tax collection showed an 8.73-percent increase in South Walton for February 2018, compared with the previous year. Walton County recorded approximately $313,000 in Tourist Development taxes in February, a new record.  

“Consistent, increasing shoulder-season visitation is a goal of Visit South Walton,” says Visit South Walton Communications Director, David Demarest. “Helping to make the area a year-round destination steadies and safeguards our economy, and the economic benefit of tourism can be felt throughout Walton County.”

The Tourist Development tax, or bed tax, is a four percent tax collected on hotels, condos and other short term rentals. It is the best way to gauge visitation and demand trends in South Walton. The revenue supports tourism marketing and beach operations including cleaning and maintaining beaches, lifeguards, destination improvements and preservation initiatives.
