Ribbon Cutting Marks Completion of Camp Creek Lake Canoe and Kayak Launch
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. – April 14 – Members of the Walton County Board of County Commissioners, Walton County Beach Operations and Tourism departments gathered for a ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of the Camp Creek Lake Canoe and Kayak Launch at 121 Camp Creek Road S., in Inlet Beach.
It welcomes visitors with its ADA-accessible pier and specialized canoe and kayak launch, ensuring everyone can experience our county’s rare dune lake ecosystem. The carefully designed facility features bicycle racks, thoughtful landscaping, and innovative stormwater management systems to protect the surrounding natural resources.
The recently completed waterfront park cost about $100,000 to design and permit, and around $870,000 to construct according to Beach Operations Director Brian Kellenberger. What most refer to as a “pocket park,” it’s a resource designed for the immediate local community which is why parking is strategically limited to a few spots.
“We are a tourist County, and we will always be diversifying our economy every day, but still, this is our main business, and it's a big business.” said District 5 Commissioner Tony Anderson. “So, I want you to thank those guys for what they do, thank Brian (Kellenberger) and Matt (Algarin) for what they do, and we especially thank our engineers and builders guys knocked it out of the park.
“Some of the challenges we had on this... Obviously, a very congested site, the roads narrowed. There's a lot of construction going on as we were doing it,” said Kellenberger. “ADA design has certain requirements for slopes, flat areas in between slopes. This particular lot had a change in elevation of 28 feet from road down to water, as you start to combine all that with making the proper slopes and switchbacks… it really got to be challenging… to be able to make it so that a person that is handicapped… had access down to the water's edge,” Said Kellenberger.
This development marks a substantial commitment to expanding recreational opportunities and environmental appreciation in our community, creating a gateway to discover Walton County's natural treasures.
This project was built and will be maintained using the Tourist Development Tax, a 5-percent tax collected on short-term rentals in south Walton County.
