South Walton Tourism Revenue rises 16 percent in December

WALTON COUNTY, Fla.—February 5, 2018—Tourism numbers were up 16-percent in South Walton during December 2017. Walton County recorded approximately $651,530 in Tourist Development taxes in December, a new record and an increase of 16-percent over the same month in 2016.

“The December increase is very good news,” says Visit South Walton Communications Director, David Demarest, “I think there’s a trend of visitors making South Walton part of their holiday tradition. We have a great selection of rental properties for vacationers interested in enjoying the beach, a serene environment and relaxed family time during the holidays. During this time of the year especially, it provides a great boost to our local economy.”

The Tourist Development tax, or bed tax, is a four percent tax collected on hotels, condos and other short term rentals. It is the best way to gauge visitation and demand trends in South Walton. The revenue supports tourism marketing and beach operations including cleaning and maintaining beaches, destination improvements and preservation initiatives.
