Tourism Revenue in South Walton rises 26 percent in November

WALTON COUNTY, Fla.—January 5, 2018—Tourism numbers were up in South Walton in November 2017. Walton County recorded approximately $825,000 in Tourist Development taxes in November, a new record and an increase of 26 percent over the same month in 2016.

“The increase in November likely comes as more families choose to spend their holidays in a vacation destination.” says Visit South Walton Communications Director, David Demarest, “South Walton has a great selection of beach cottages and rentals, making it ideal for families interested in getting together for the holidays, enjoying the beach, the natural environment, the activities and the culinary scene.”

The Tourist Development tax, or bed tax, is a four percent tax collected on hotels, condos and other short term rentals. It is the best way to gauge visitation and demand trends in South Walton. The revenue supports tourism marketing, beach operations including cleaning and maintaining beaches, destination improvements and preservation.
